You keep hearing about using AI, but it all seems surreal. So here’s a couple examples so you can just try it out for yourself. Let us know what you think or if you have any questions.
Image Generation
Most free AI services now offer free imaginative image generation. There are a lot of safety guardrails to avoid anti-social behaviors, but for the most part you get a lot of leeway to have images generated. The featured image of this post is a great example of creative image generation. I merely asked Grok (xAI’s free model at grok.com) to “Please generate an image of a stereotypical it engineer in a datacenter holding a laptop, but it’s a dog. Please provide in 4:3 (landscape).” You can see how the reasoning model assembled the image and missed a few context details – either that or this golden retriever lifted someone else’s employee badge.
Great for creative expression of simple ideas in marketing, communications, social media, etc.
Research

A lot of people don’t realize that they can only access a narrow slice of medical science via their doctors, whom often prescribe treatment and make recommendations according to “standard of care” and first-line treatments published by a collective of medical organizations and government agencies. All you really have to do is ask. I asked Google’s Gemini (gemini.google.com) to tell me about alternative treatment regimes effective for diabetes patients outside of the standard of care. For further research you can ask it to provide links to studies for evidence and to look into counter-arguments to really give you a working body of knowledge.
Great for researching hundreds of articles without having to read more than a few.
Web App Development

I spent only a half-an-hour developing my homepage web app at twotreeservices.com/aihome.html. Feel free to play with the app a little yourself. Although I possess the requisite knowledge to understand the application at the code level, I never needed to touch a single line of code. This is something a casual technology-savvy person can put together on their own. With enough time and asking the AI how to do things, even without the technology-savviness, most folks can probably put together something similar. While it may not be efficient, AI makes things like web development accessible for everyone.
Great for making simple programs where security is not a critical issue.
